The story of Alroe is one of grit, growth, and a relentless pursuit of excellence, driven by Tye Alroe’s passion for building.
It all began in 2002 when Tye, still playing football and harbouring dreams of an NRL career, was signed with the Melbourne Storm. However, by the age of 19, he had already shifted focus, discovering a fascination for construction that sparked his journey into the world of building.
Before Alroe existed, Tye’s passion for building was already taking shape. Starting his career on the tools, working hands on to understand the foundations of the industry, Tye gained invaluable insight into the construction world. This role taught him the importance of hard work but also the value of resilience, and what it takes to earn respect in the industry. He credits this period with instilling a strong work ethic and the ability to lead and work alongside tough crews.
While completing his Carpentry Apprenticeship with a luxury builder for the first time, Tye immersed himself in all aspects of the process—from footings to slabs, carpentry and finishing trades. This experience laid the groundwork for the practical skills he would need to build his own projects in the future. These years laid the foundation for what Alroe would eventually become.
Tye launched his own carpentry business in 2008 for Brisbane owner-builders. What started as a small-scale operation soon expanded, as Tye’s expertise and reputation for quality work led to more opportunities.
During this period Tye's career took a significant step forward when his company joined Hutchies, moving from a small team of three to managing a team of 64 within a few months. He worked on modular building projects and was involved in large-scale operations at mining sites, providing him with invaluable insight into complex builds and scaling operations.
A milestone that reflected his transition from tradesman to builder.
At 25, Tye built his first house in Bulimba marking the beginning of Alroe’s story.
During this period, Alroe took on a range of projects, from custom carpentry to renovations, growing steadily and establishing a firm foothold in the market. Completing the first renovation and high end duplex project for himself at Mermaid Beach and later entering into joint ventures.
This period marked the early exposure into property development.
Tye learned valuable lessons in project management and resilience, leading him to employ his first estimator and bookkeeper. That year, Alroe achieved an annual turnover of $5 million, marking a significant step in the company’s growth.
As Alroe continued to evolve, the company moved into larger, more complex projects. Under Tye’s leadership, the team grew from 1 to 6, with a focus on luxury custom homes and splitter block developments.
Alroe began attracting high-end clients and building a strong reputation for quality. At the same time, Tye consistently completed one duplex development every two years, contributing to the company’s growth and achieving an impressive $30 million turnover.
Tye knew he had to steady the business’s growth as the industry navigated the toughest time in 100 years, facing price increases and labour shortages. Despite these challenges, Alroe achieved a turnover of $50 million and grew to a team of 54, filling a gap in the market by specialising in luxury townhouses and NDIS developments.
Among a range of standout projects, a luxury four-villa development in Surfers Paradise exemplified Alroe’s commitment to high-end residential and commercial excellence, solidifying its position as a leader in these sectors.
Alroe broadened its portfolio to include commercial sectors such as warehousing and childcare centres. Listening to client needs, Alroe integrated Maddison Road and Maddison House into the group, creating a vertically integrated offering of development, construction, branding, and sales.
Alroe launched $75 million worth of developments across three projects in blue-chip locations, solidifying its position in the market.
The George Street project was recognised with the National Specialist Housing Award by the HIA, a testament to Alroe’s commitment to excellence and innovation.
Alroe continues to evolve and expand its footprint in the property development industry, with an impressive $250 million worth of projects currently in the pipeline.
These projects span a diverse range of sectors, including luxury boutique developments, a $113 million medium density 20-unit residential project, specialist disability accommodation, and commercial buildings.
